So what does SereneKID do?
A child's brain develops gradually. Its different parts mature one by one. And each part of the brain develops to an "adult" state following the same pattern.
-
At the first stage a massive increase in the number of active nerve cells (neurons) happens. They generate high levels of excitation.
It is at this stage that the child's spontaneous, uncontrolled motor activity reaches its peak.
-
The second phase involves the development of inhibitory neurons. They begin to suppress excessive excitation to establish the balanced, "adult" functioning of this part of the brain.

Sometimes the phase of inhibitory neuron development is delayed and your patience begins to wear thin.
But do not rush to resort to radical measures.
The SereneKID device accelerates the development of the brain's inhibitory mechanisms. The device does it without any direct physical impact on the brain. It restores the child's normal behavior, including motor activity, attention and learning ability.

Can the SereneKID device harm my baby? No, it can't. SereneKID has no physical effect on your child. It does not use any electrical or electromagnetic stimuli. It does have a Bluetooth transmitter, but its power is lower than standard wireless headphones. However, it should be noted that if a child has a confirmed diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the SereneKID is not a device to treat this condition. In any case, if ADHD or any other medical condition is involved, a doctor should be consulted.

How can SereneKID help a psychologist?SereneKID cannot replace a psychologist, but it can handle the simplest, most routine part of a psychologist's job. Let's break down what a psychologist usually does (in a highly simplified way, of course): Among other things, the psychologist teaches the child to evaluate his behavior as "good" or "bad," instilling in him the criteria for this evaluation. "Good" behavior is encouraged, and "bad" behavior is "punished" (understandably, in an extremely mild and gentle sense of the word). As a result of daily repetition over several months, the child's brain forms a new movement control system. What we, and psychologists understand by "bad" behavior. Most often, it is spontaneous, uncontrolled motor activity of the child. SereneKID is equipped with special sensors. This small device, worn on the child's head, analyzes his movements, calculates what is normal for him and sets an individual standard for evaluating his motor behavior. In this way, SereneKID understands when a child is exhibiting "bad" behavior that needs correction, and when their behavior is normal and deserves reward. Now let's talk about rewards and punishments. Most kids love watching cartoons on their smartphones or tablets. Imagine that your child has chosen an interesting cartoon and started watching it. While he watches, SereneKID continuously monitors his movements. If there are signs of excessive, overactive behavior, SereneKID turns off the screen, temporarily restricting the cartoon. In neurotypical children, this never leads to frustration. Usually the phase of spontaneous, intense movements lasts only a few seconds, after which the screen is turned back on and the child can continue watching, i.e. is encouraged. Each session lasts 20 minutes, during which the child experiences about a hundred encouragements. You will repeat similar sessions over the following days. In this way, SereneKID helps your child's brain to form a movement control system. After a few weeks, you will notice that your child is a little calmer and it is easier to concentrate (a concentration test is included in the SereneKID app). After a full course of 30 sessions, not only you, but also others around you will notice positive changes. If you want faster results, you can have up to two sessions a day.

How can I assess the effectiveness of my SereneKID training? The SereneKID app includes a built-in test to gauge your child's attention level. It illustrates how their attention improves throughout the training program. Additionally, the app stores all training results in a user-friendly graphical format for easy viewing. The overall graph shows how much your child's spontaneous motor activity decreases over the course of the session Typically, a noticeable decrease isn't immediate but becomes apparent around the 7th to 10th session. The bar height represents your child's motor activity during each session. A calmer child behavior corresponds to a shorter bar. The black line indicates efficiency, measured as the percentage of session time with the movie playing. Colored circles represent the results of an attention test: the less time spent on the test, the better.

What is SereneKID?SereneKID is a compact electronic device that pairs with a smartphone or tablet app. It monitors your child's movements while they enjoy their favorite cartoons. The SereneKID device examines your child's movements, establishes a personal standard for 'appropriate' behavior, and manages movie playback. When your child's movements are within the normal range, the movie continues without any issues. However, if SereneKID's sensors detect too much activity, the screen temporarily goes black, pausing the movie and briefly interrupting your child's viewing pleasure. These daily sessions last for 30 minutes. In approximately one month, your child's excessive activity will decrease, their focus will improve, and they'll become more persistent. SereneKID acts as an automatic simulator, so your child doesn't need to put in any effort. It's user-friendly and doesn't demand any special knowledge or skills. Anyone with a smartphone can use it. The device utilizes advanced behavioral therapy technologies integrated into a microprocessor. The core idea of SereneKID technology is to speed up the development of brain mechanisms that help control excitement and behavior without using any physical methods. It relies on enhancing natural brain processes, tapping into a child's natural motivation for fun and entertainment.
-
Can SereneKID help my child with ADHD?SereneKID is not a treatment for ADHD. It is intended for neurotypical children whose excessive, uncontrolled motor activity is temporary and of a different nature than ADHD. During the natural development of a child's brain, there are periods of imbalance when inhibitory control systems lag behind the more rapidly forming neural networks with predominant excitation. When this "lag" remains uncompensated for some reason for a long time, the child's movements become less controlled. The goal of SereneKID is to naturally accelerate the development of the brain's inhibitory systems, which compensate for the resulting imbalance. SereneKID uses a behavioral method without any stimulation procedures.
-
Can a child use SereneKID on their own?Yes, it's possible. Around the age of 5, many children start choosing and watching movies on a smartphone independently, and the SereneKID app is designed with this in mind. Furthermore, the app has safeguards to prevent any child's playful tricks. For instance, if a child removes the device from their head and sets it on a table during a session to pretend they are resting. Additionally, parents can track the progress of each session as all the data is securely stored in the device's memory.
-
Does SereneKID's effectiveness vary with a child's age?SereneKID technology is most effective during the "acute" phase of troublesome behavioral patterns in a child. This is when your patience is wearing thin and the child's spontaneous, uncontrolled physical activity is at its peak. These outward behaviors signal a sharp increase in excitability in the developing parts of the brain. It's precisely during this phase that we need to facilitate the natural development of the brain's inhibitory systems, which is the core function of SereneKID technology. When using SereneKID, the brain starts constructing neural networks that regulate (inhibit) excessive excitation. This process leads to the formation of a mature brain structure, ultimately restoring normal behavior in the child, including their movements, attention, and learning abilities.
-
Why do neurotypical children have excessive motor activity and behavioral problems? Most often, this is because a child's brain develops unevenly. Don't worry, uneven brain development is a normal part of growing up. At birth, all parts of a child's brain are already formed, but not all of them are active. Brain development happens gradually, typically continuing until around the age of 18. Different parts of the brain start working one after the other, not all at once. Here's an essential point: the maturation of any part of the brain always consists of two stages. The first stage involves a surge in the number of active nerve cells (neurons) that produce high levels of excitement. The second stage sees the emergence and development of inhibitory neurons, which help control excessive excitement and establish the 'grown-up' functioning of that part of the brain. The first (active) phase always comes before the second (inhibitory) phase. This is why children often go through phases of excessive activity, which gradually give way to 'normal' behavior. Usually, this normal process of 'excessive' behavior lasts for several weeks and often goes unnoticed. However, sometimes, for reasons we don't fully understand, the initial active phase of a specific brain structure's development is delayed, and inhibitory processes progress slowly. This is when we observe what's called 'problematic behavior.'
-
How long do I need to use SereneKID to see results?A standard session lasts 20 minutes and 30 sessions are recommended. This is because it takes a certain amount of time and repetition of conditioned and unconditioned stimuli with positive reinforcement for the brain to build up its internal movement control system. It's not advisable to have more than two sessions per day because it doesn't expedite the results. Also, avoid gaps of more than two days between sessions because the newly developed skill, especially in the early stages of training, can diminish quickly.
-
Is there any harm in watching movies for an extended period?Extended movie-watching by children can potentially have psychological drawbacks, like addiction to screens. However, watching for 30 to 60 minutes a day isn't considered risky. Furthermore, the SereneKID app employs movies as a positive incentive linked to appropriate motor behavior. This helps establish inhibitory mechanisms in the child's brain and encourages age-appropriate and environment-responsive behavior.
-
Can this help my child get ready for school? This is one of the most common reasons parents choose the SereneKID device. School brings new challenges that can be unfamiliar to a child, and their ability to behave well in a group is particularly important. If your child is overly active and struggles to focus, these are signs that they might face difficulties in the future. So, consider starting your child with SereneKID. In many cases, it can help your child adapt to the school environment a lot more effectively.

Will my child become like Pavlov's dog?Pavlov, and also his predecessors E.L. Thorndike, B.F. Skinner, and their followers, conducted experiments on animals and showed that a universal mechanism of operant conditioning underlies our acquired behavior. The conditioned reflex is one of its variants In order for the brain to form a new form of behavior, new (conditioned) stimuli and unconditional reactions must be repeated many times and this must result in positive reinforcement. Whether these stimuli are encountered in the environment or created artificially (as in the case of the SereneKID device), the result is always a new, stable type of behavior. This process mirrors what psychologists do when they encourage a child's appropriate behavior and "restrain" their excessive, maladaptive responses. This is exactly how the SereneKID device works.
